The Performers:

Helene Rosenblatt - Director
Sopranino,Soprano,Alto,Tenor,F Bass,Great Bass (C)
Primarily a flutist, Helene has played recorder for many years including a stint as Bass Recorder player in the Hofstra University Collegium conducted by William Hettrick. A link to information on Helene's other groups is listed below.

Deborah Forest Hart - Chief Recorder Maven
Sopranino, Soprano, Alto,Tenor, F Bass (soon to have Great Bass)
Deborah also plays hammered dulcimer, concertina and whistle and come to music, by way of about twenty years experience in historic/traditional dance. This includes, Vintage, English, Scottish, Contra, Renaissance and Swing dance.

She has only been *playing* early/traditional music seriously "lately!" (Which I think means about 5-10 years!) But has been immersed in the music via dancing for a much longer time. Her early "training" was in art and literature and she exhibited professionally for nearly twenty years before switching over to dance and music. ""Light" and "Color" and "Phrasing" and "Le Mot Juste" have always been very important to me, and I suspect have followed me into the musical milieu, shaping my playing. "

"I also recall being enamored of the Deller Consort and other Early Music finds on Nonesuch records while in college, the group Musikantiga in Brazil, and occasionally singing madrigals during that time period. I also sang in the Yale Slavic Chorus for three years, which whet my appetite for the esoteric and the polyrhythmic!

My initiation into recorder playing and recorder music stems from a chance visit to a small music shop in Cambridge, England, in 1970, where I acquired my first (and thankfully, long gone) wooden recorder and a small book of tunes, _All in a Garden Green_, a collection of English Country Dances. I remembered wondering just what *was* an "English Country Dance." Years later, I was to fall in love with that diversion, as well. "
